Tamron has unveiled the 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD, variable wide-angle zoom lens designed for the Sony E-Mount APS-C mirrorless cameras and claimed by the company to be the world’s first ultra-wide-angle zoom lens to offer a consistent f/2.8 aperture.

Tamron says that the lens has been specially engineered to serve a variety of purposes and has some interesting features to make sure of that. The lens features a full frame equivalent of 30mm at the long end and a 16.5mm at the wide end, mixed with an f/2.8 aperture, which makes it capable of a variety of scenarios ranging from landscape to street photography.

At the wide end, the lens can focus up to as close as 5.9 inches and offers a maximum magnification of 1:4; however, at the long end it can obtain a focus at as close as 9.4 inches which provides the photographers a greater creative freedom even in challenging environment.

The 11-20mm lens is compact, measuring just 3.4 inches and weighs 11.8 ounces which, when combined with its aperture of f/2.8 through f/16 and an amazing zoom range, makes it remarkably usable and thus a perfect choice.

Additionally, to minimize ghosting and flare, it features a BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating which helps bring out even the finest details in the images.

Tamron’s RXD driven autofocus in the lens is remarkably silent making it of use in both photo and video along with which it is compatible with a variety of camera-specific features; Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF to name a few.

The lens has a moisture resistant body along with which it comes with a fluorine coating as an extra protection. Moreover, the 67mm front filter seen in a majority of Tamron’s lenses is beneficial when it comes to sharing neutral density filters as well as polarizing filters.

The Tamron 11-20 Lens will be available late June 2021 and will be priced at $829. The supply schedule might change owing to the current health crisis.
